Sons of Anarchy season 4

The season premiere kicks off 14 months since we last saw them last. Let’s first admit that Season 3 was not the series’ best. However after watching the first three episodes of the new season, I can say that not only Season 4 starts things off strong, but it could end up being its best season yet. Here are a few reasons why.

As mentioned, there’s a significant time-jump between Season 3 and 4. When the premiere begins, we see Jax and the ‘Sons’ being released from prison.

The time-jump is good because it freshens up new storylines. A lot of time has passed, so when SAMCRO is released, they have to deal with these changes. And that makes for some great action to come.

One of the bad things about Season 3 is that the storylines were so stretched. There were things going on in Ireland, there were things going on back home in Charming. It made the pacing of the show sporadic, and a lot of it felt unnecessary.

No road trips (so far) in Season 4. When the crew is released from prison, SAMCRO is trying to adjust to the ‘new’ Charming. And there’s a lot to deal with in their backyard.

Season 4 wastes no time to introduce new characters into the series. And the good news is that most of them are pretty damn awesome.

First we have the new Sheriff in Charming. Sheriff Eli Roosevelt is played by Rockmond Dunbar, who Prison Break fans will remember as C-Note. SAMCRO quickly learns that Roosevelt means business, and won’t be bought off like the previous Sheriff.

SAMCRO also a new U.S. District Attorney on their tail. Ray McKinnon (Deadwood) plays the unorthodox D.A. who specializes in organized crime.

Danny Trejo also joins the cast this season as Romero “Romeo” Parada, a Mexican gang leader that makes SAMCRO an offer that could fracture the group.

Things might be peachy with the ‘Sons’ when they are released from prison, but the cracks in the group quickly begin to show. I know for me, the tension between crew members is one of the most interesting elements of the show.

In hopes to make money for the club, SAMCRO has to decide on something that has the group divided. The gang will make the most important vote, and it could very well change things forever.

Katey Sagal continues to brilliantly play Gemma. This season, she becomes more suspicious of how much Tara knows about their past. Remember those letters from Ireland? Yeah, they surface. We know if Gemma feels threatened, she’ll do anything to keep what’s hers.

When SAMCRO returns to Charming, you can expect a lot of action. The body-count piles up in the first three episodes, and the action just doesn’t stop. And we wouldn’t have it any other way. Fasten your seatbelts; this is going to be a great season.

Many shows this season say that they are going ‘back to basics’. I can attest that Sons of Anarchy does go back to what it does best. If you were disappointed by Season 3, rest assured that Season 4 makes up for it.
