There are two main, must have, features I look for in an iPad 2 case. First, it has to work with the sleep/awake function that the Apple Smart Cover provides. Second, it has to offer the ability to be used in a least one stand position. After that other features are just icing on the cake.
Read on for my full review. The Snugg iPad 2 Case is made from black leather. It features white stictching to accent. This happens to be one of my favorite combinations when it comes to leather accessories. The white stitching really pops against the black leather background.
The interior of this case is lined with a microfiber material which serves to protect the back and screen of your iPad 2 when the case comes in contact with it. The iPad 2 is held in place via a cradle like sleeve along the right side of the case. A small flap tucks behind the iPad 2 and is secured with Velcro.
Once you place your iPad 2 into the sleeve and tuck the Velcro flap behind it you’re left with a very secure fit. You’ll notice that the leather of the case covers the entire bezel on the front of the iPad 2. This case does work with the built in magnets a la the Apple Smart Cover. When you close the front flap your iPad 2 will go to sleep and when you open it your scree wakes up. I did notice from time to time this feature would activate when I didn’t want it to because the front flap wasn’t secured down. However, this seems to be the norm with most folio style iPad 2 cases. In any case, condition one met.
The case features a perfectly sized cutout at the top for the iPad 2′s front facing camera and a horseshoe like notch at the bottom for the home button.
On the back of the case you’ll find another cutout for the rear facing camera. There’s also a notch on the back for placing the case into two different stand modes, but more on that later.
Thee bottom of the case features a cutout for the iPad 2′s thirty-pin connector. You can charge and or sync your iPad 2 without having to remove it from the case. What does seem to be missing is any sort of cutout for the speakers though. However, since this is a folio style case the sound doesn’t appear to be muffled.
Along the top of the case you’ll find three cutouts. One for the headset jack, another for the microphone and a third for the sleep/awake button.
If you flip the front cover around and tuck it into the notch on the back of the case you’ll then be able to prop it up into two different stand positions. One, a more relaxed angle, is perfect for typing and other tasks where you have to come in contact with the screen.
Remember the “icing on the cake?” The Snugg case has got that too in the form of a handstrap. Once you fold the front flap around you’ll be able to secure your hand inside the elastic strap. This makes holding the iPad 2 with only one hand much safer and frees your other hand for tapping, swipping etc.
The Snugg iPad 2 Case meets all of my criteria for a good iPad 2 case. It works with the built in sleep/awake function, can be used in two different stand positions, features a hand strap for extra grip and looks good too. All this and the case is priced under $30. I’d call that a win on all levels.
