Image via WikipediaHow do you create unique, one-of-a-kind content for a large number of clients in various industries? This is perhaps the most challenging piece of social media consulting.

But overcoming consultant’s writer’s block (or, bloggers block) is as easy as putting your social media cap on and thinking like the social media marketer you are! Using the same online social media skills and tools you currently use, you can find and re-craft newsworthy content for any industry.

While some industries have large amounts of content available to choose from (e.g. “Pet Products”), finding viable content for smaller industries can challenging (e.g. “Welding”). You can broaden the amount of content for these precise industries by:

Writing about what industry influencers are talking about. Each industry’s influencers have a unique set of viewpoints and interests, which make for interesting content. To find out what these industry influencers are talking about, you can:

Use a service like Tweetmeme, Topsy, ReSearch.ly and search for the high ranked tweets for your keyword or industry. Chances are the results will be linked to an industry influencer.

Real-time search engines, such as Tweetmeme, Topsy, and ReSearch.ly produce results for high-ranked tweets by keyword, helping you identify conversations and influencers in the industry. For example, @Millerwelders, @vrtex360, #welding, and #fabrication are probably all good resources to "follow" on Twitter for welding information.

There are a number of services that provide RSS feeds of top news for various industries. Using any combination of these (and other) services, you will begin to understand “hot button” topics.

WebWire – Free RSS newsfeed service that integrates with Google, Yahoo, and MSN. Provides news based on industries and keyword search.

Digg – Free search option that sorts stories based on most popular (or “dug”) sites on the web. Results are often a little more unique and sensationalized than standard industry news.

Real-time Search Engines like Tweetmeme, Topsy, ReSearch.ly – Search and RSS Feed for high-ranked tweets for your keyword or industry.

Digg is a free search option for finding unique and often entertaining or sensationalized stories by keyword. A search for "welding" produced these results.

Research.ly is another real-time tweet search engine that gives you results based on top visibility, positive vs. negative tweets, number of retweets, and audience.

Tip: You can set up feeds to all these services and add them to your Google Reader to help organize the data, scanning over the information daily and “starring” your favorite stories.

Once you have your RSS feeds set up, select content that will be useful, engaging, and informational for your audience. Use the RSS feed stories as a foundation for your content, adding your client’s “flavor” by incorporating the following:

Write an opinion piece. Have your client read the story over and provide their opinion, crafting their opinion plus a portion of the article into a new piece.

Write a profile piece. Write and publish a profile piece on an industry influencer or company within the industry using information from their site.

Identify trends in the industry. Pulling together points from the most popular stories, you can create a piece on the top trends of the week/month.

Creating unique content for a vast audience of clients can be challenging, but if you use social media tools to search and RSS feed industry stories, you can create a digestible process for managing and creating unique content.
