Miui Evo 4g

I'm curious to see what percentage of our readers who run custom ROMs are using AOSP (Android Open Source Project - something pretty close to vanilla Android, such as CyanogenMod), and what percentage are using something based on stock device ROMs. More specifically, I want to find out if people on certain manufacturers are more likely to go AOSP than others - in other words, is Blur/NinjaBlur pushing more people to AOSP than TouchWiz, or is there no difference?

So here's the deal: below you'll see the possible choices. The first part is the type of ROM you're running, and the second is what brand your device is. For example, if you're using an EVO and running CyanogenMod, you'll choose AOSP - HTC. If you're using an EVO and running a ROM that still uses Sense UI, you'll choose Stock - HTC.

I've also tossed in an option for MIUI. In my mind, MIUI is at least as different from AOSP as most manufacturer UIs. However, the device breakdown isn't as important here, as I'm guessing more people use AOSP and stock-based ROMs.

He said that device breakdown for the MIUI option would not be as important because he assumed fewer people use it than AOSP or stock.

58% of responders use AOSP, 29% use stock, and 13% use MIUI. This supports his assumption that fewer people use MIUI than either AOSP or stock.

You're only misinterpreting MIUI as more significant than expected because all the devices are lumped into one group. If MIUI were split into 4 categories like the others it would look far less impressive.

I'm "patiently" waiting for my replacement Droid X to get shipped from Verizon (the order was put in Friday afternoon as "next day" mail, its been 48hr+ and still no phone)...

But... since I'm gonna have to re-install everything on it anyway... I've been wanting to try CM7 out on it, but kind of iffy since it's still in the nightly phase & there hasn't been an official stable release yet... I know initially there was some issue with sound and the camera & a couple other things.... but that's been awhile now... So does anyone here use it? Is it stable enough to use or should I just chill with the stock rom for awhile longer?

Actually i used for a week or 2. it was pretty stable. It can easily be used as a daily driver for you. The camera and sound issues have been resolved.Well i kinda of take that back. ive never tried the camera without it but when you flash a new nightly there is a patch that you need to flash after flashing the new nightly which is solely for the camera and torch.

Nexus is ASOP - Other isnt it? really there should be a Google Brand, because regardless of what manufacturer makes the handset, Google distro phones are as different as sense, motoblur etc. I have friends with touchwiz who picked up a Nexus S and wanted to know what the overlay was called because they liked it so much lol. I said it was called Vanilla and they asked when Samsung switched from Touchwiz to Vanilla. Generally I think the whole overlay thing confuses muggles.

AOSP is so boring. so vanilla. I can maybe understand liking the launcher for simplicity but especially for custom roms that take out the bloat, manufacturer UIs are superior.

I'd have to agree with that. TouchWiz is pretty close to AOSP Roms though. They feel similar if you use gingerbread launcher or something.

I was on various AOSP ROMs for a long time (HTC Desire), but I recently jumped to MIUI, in the form of MIUI-AU. There are little shortcuts I really like, such as the torch-on-lockscreen by holding Home, and the optional popup SMS-reply widget. I also think that MIUI is more polished in terms of animation and general attractiveness. In addition to which, you can theme it properly - the last time I used CM7 the theme engine wasn't there yet - and I get bored of the how things look way too easily! Finally - I'm a flashing junkie. Weekly updates are great news.

If I'm wearing a shirt, the cut and color of it makes a difference. All shirts are not created equal, and not all Android ROMs are created equal.

I wish I was using AOSP or MIUI. FOr some reason, they don't seem to function on my phone, no matter how clean the wipe. Stuck on stock based roms.

i'm currently running miui revamped on a vibrant. i was running cm7, but had a lot of force closes. bionix from team whiskey worked well. at least then i was able to use gps and wifi calling without a hitch.

Droid X MIUI. I am the anti-apple type, so I use GoLauncher. The ability to change themes in MIUI is unmatched. I will never love another ROM.

I'm running MIUI on the OG Dinc. While as much of an iPhone hater as the next Android fanboy, I have not replaced the launcher or anything and in fact love every aspect of the ROM. It gives Android a more elegant matching interface IMO. I was a long time lover of CM (Was using 6 and then 7) though.

A possible reason for so many running AOSPs on HTC, is that, like myself, they have an 'older' but still relevant model (Desire anyone?), and by running another ROM avoid upgrading phones to have access to a newer Android version.

It's not absolutely necessary to get a new phone every 6 months, just to enjoy the latest Android developments. Thanks to the tireless work of all AOSP devs.

However what forced me to finally upgrade from the Desire was TINY internal memory. I just did not have any more space for apps despite A2SD & CyaogenMod.. Boo HTC!!

Desire can't remain relevant or even useable on stock. I've cranked the hell into it to give it enough memory. MIUI.us with Go Launcher is superb. With Dark Tremor's version of a2sd taking care of memory.

Used CyanogenMod on my HTC Desire - the upgrade in performance & battery was amazing! Sense is just pure BLOAT. Still running stock Touchwiz on my SGS2 - nothing pushing me to a custom ROM yet. But I'll probably experiment once I get one cick root & a stable release of CyaogenMod.

I expected soo much from them but when it come down too it even though they was good overall i found a problem with each one and it made things more complicated for me when trying to use my phone.

So i just went back too stock and wont use a rom again, the stock i have on my samsung is fine, with the new firmwares samsung are starting too get it right and things are smooth and simple too use.

Some custom ROMs are cool and all but IMHO it shouldn't be necessary to use a custom ROM to get the latest version, so my next phone will be from the Nexus linie with pure android.

Using a touchwiz rom (eclipse) for the DROID CHARGE. I am really to think i should have kept my thunderbolt. With Imoseyon kernel and a few other tweaks but mainly the kernel, i got the phone to easily last a whole day on 4G (detroit). for some reason, when i visited chicago, their 4g is very weird. the 4g their sucks through battery life but here i can run completely stock and my charge will go through a day with moderate-heavy usage. my thunderbolt could do the same or better. in chicago my charge usually died after 4 hours of standby. i get 2-3 bars in detroit and same in chicago. in chicago id go from 7 am- 3 pm then dead. detroit i can go 10am-12pm with some juice left. What is different with our 4g in detroit???

On my Transformer, I'm still unrooted. Haven't properly investigated my options. But suspect that there are still no decent replacement ROMS for it.
