One of the most problematic situations in life, is learning how to code or program. There are numerous websites for you to read through, and sites that get you started but might be a little confusing. Other sites jump in the middle of and expect you to know the basics first. This can easily detour what might be a great developer, to sit on the sidelines and watch instead of participate. We don’t want that. Thanks to a little work from RootzWiki member unkleduke, he has compiled a great little resource to help get you started in right direction. Free online programming/CS courses for beginners I see a lot of threads asking where/how beginners can learn programming. I’m trying to teach myself this as well and thought I’d share what I’ve found so far. —————————————– Free Courses & Lessons: Harvard’s intro to Computer Science - CS50 Harvard’s Building Mobile...
Have you ever been in one of those situations where you go, “Oh crap, what did I just do? Why is it bootlooping?” Then spent countless hours looking for a solution on various websites and stressing out that your wife is going to kill you for breaking your phone. To top that off, you might ask for assistance to only get flamed and made fun of for not being able to solve it your self. I have been there a few time, it’s not a good feeling. Thanks to RootzWiki, you now have a safe and friendly place to ask those questions that might be important for you to get an answer too. They have launched the Panic Room. We would like to introduce the new place to get urgent help, the Panic Room. We are going to keep it manufacturer specific that way internationally we keep you covered. It isn’t intended to be a tech support, but a way to teach the new users in peril how to get them selves out of bad situations. With that being said here are the ground rules: Rules of using... [ADW Theme]
There are so many ways for users to change the look of their device. Many of you are using CM7 or other ROM’s based on that code and have access to the theme chooser app. That helps out a great deal and there is no shortage of themes available for it. For the rest of the world, you guys will be using something like LauncherPRO or ADWLauncher. You guys need themes too, right? @JaiThemes has your back there. He is one of the leading themers for our beloved Android devices and has a multitude of work in the market. Not to mention his home page on jbthemes.com. One of my favorite pieces of work by JaiThemes is his Glass Rings ADW theme. Take a look - Not for everyone, but that is the beauty of Android. I like it a lot. Like most themers out there, he was kind enough to offer a FREE version which includes 45 themed icons for you to love or hate. If you love them, then you can pick up his paid version for only $1.99. If you spend the money then you will be gaining over 220 themed...

As an Epic owner coming from a MT4G I was accustomed to seeing a variety of options when ever I was in need of switch, which is not found when looking through the latest Epic ROM to run. Which is not to say that it’s the lack of developers or that the current ones are bad as I understand you can only work with what you got. We have partially working CM7 and MIUI builds already although the updates have seemed to slow down a bit, which is also fine as life happens.
Upon checking the update status of our current MIUI port I came across a post containing a link to the MIUI dev site. To my surprise I ended up finding out that someone within the MIUI community is currently trying to port it over himself despite the fact that he doesn’t actually own a phone. Rather than being able to test the releases himself, he’s relying on the community to let him know how things go. I understand that this is probably a pain as it requires an update and lots of waiting coupled with quite a bit of trial and error as it would seem. Which leads me to the reason for this post.
As I’ve never actually gauged the amount of Epic owners I’m curious to see how many are out there that would like a good AOSP ROM working on our phones. Unlike the GSM versions of the Galaxy S line we have no flagship device to port from, making development seem kinda of one sided. With choices like TouchWiz, TouchWiz, or TouchWiz, it’s easy to see that. So I ask if you own an Epic and are willing to get your hands dirty, help get this thing running by helping to test releases.
Kudos to fusingblackrose for even attempting this project. We need more developers willing to cross platforms to help people beyond beyond the devices they own themselves.
I'm an avid technology lover. My first Android device was a G1; I fell in love (except for the battery), next I got a Samsung Captivate; error in judgment on my behalf, now I've moved on to the MyTouch 4G; which I absolutely love. What started with me just needing some kind of phone to use, i.e. free G1, ended with a new addiction.... I also enjoy long walks on the beach and luxurious bubble baths.... Oh wait.
LOL... AOSP. I wouldn't exactly call MIUI AOSP. It's about as far as you can get from AOSP. That being said, my wife has an Epic, and I would LOVE for this to work out. She loves her phone, but she's very jealous of my EVO and the love it gets from the community.
