Tweet This! Digg This Reblog Do you often find yourself hating the camera app that comes with most AOSP ROMs on your HTC EVO 4G? For many this is the deal breaker when leaving Sense, as you can make almost any AOSP look about the same.
One of the things I've found absolutely deplorable about the default camera apps with most ROMs I've tried is the shutter sound, lack of spot focusing, and general lack of configuration. There are a lot of things Sense got wrong, but it did do pretty darn good on the camera application.
That's where MIUI's camera app comes in, which brings configurability to AOSP platforms along with features such as burst mode, anti-shake, camera effects, timer delay, overlay, and spot-focusing.
What I find very cool about this camera is that in video mode, you can do real-time effects of mono, sepia, negative, posterize, solarize, and aqua—basically everything that made a 1980s music video a 1980s music video. Sadly, you can only have one effect per video.
MIUI's camera apps have been floating around for some time, but I was tipped off to v17 by ropodope over on Vaelek's Forums. There are several ways to get and install the camera. Although this is probably safe, I advise making a Nandroid backup just in case something with your phone or ROM does not get along with the camera. This appears to work on most AOSP EVO 4G roms, but your mileage may vary.

Just downloaded the .apk listed in the article and it installed fine on an EVO4g running CM7. It's awesome to have spot focusing back. Thank you!Reply 08/15/2011 at 07:
