Xiaomi has just announced the Xiaomi Phone in Beijing today, a new phone brand from China built by former staff from China’s top tech players, including Google, Microsoft, Motorola, BYD, Baidu, Kingsoft, Lenovo and Alibaba. The company received over $35 million USD in funding at the start of 2011, and have now released the Xiaomi Phone to show for it. Perhaps the most lucrative part is that this phone will cost a mere 1,999 RMB, which is around $310 USD unlocked.

Xiaomi means little rice in Chinese, and the phone comes with state of the art hardware, such as a dual-core, 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8260 chip, the powerful Adreno 220 GPU, 1GB RAM and 4GB ROM. One of the main gripes users have with smartphones is the lackluster battery life, and the team behind the Xiaomi Phone have solved this by including a monstrous 1930mAh battery cell (iPhone 4 has a 1420mAh cell), which they promise will keep the phone juiced up for two days. Other features include GPS (with A-GPS) and GLONASS (Russian navigation standard) support, a 4-inch 480 x 854 Sharp LCD screen, 3 touch buttons below screen, a customizable Home button. Dimensions for the Xiaomi Phone are at 125mm x 63mm x 11.9mm, with a weight of 149g (5.3 ounces). Finally, a the popular custom UI MIUI will run on top of the phone’s Android OS. Pre-orders begin on August 29th, with Chinese deliveries in October.
