Term 3 September School Holiday already started! Although it lasts only one week from 5th September to 9th September 2011, you still could have lots of fun and chances for family bonding! Many students are using this period to prepare for their final year exams especially those Primary 6 students who are busy preparing for their final dash for the PSLE (Wish your child best of luck!)

Even though this is a very short school vacation and busy period, students still need breaks and time to relax. I have listed here some recommendations that will hopefully “recharge” and cheer them up. Parents will find good family bonding time while spending time doing these activities together. More than 10 fun activities to choose from, enjoy!

The cute lovable Smurfs such as Papa Smurf, Clumsy and Smurfette have come to the Frasers Centrepoint Malls (FCM). Your children could get close and personal with the friendly Smurfs. They could partake in a slew of promotions and activities at FCM's nine malls.

They could be among the 1st 50 shoppers from Fridays to Sundays to have their photo taken with the Smurfs during scheduled sessions.

Or your kids could create their own mini Smurf cottage with fun props with a minimum spend of S$30. For parents, you could get a complimentary Smurf magnets and collectible cards with minimun spending of just $50.

If you want to arouse the interest of your kids for Science, this may be a suitable workshop for your kids. They can take part in exciting hands-on science workshops with cool experiments from the United States. Conducted by Starquest, a partner of Singapore Science Centre for Science Explorer workshops. The Spectacular Science Explorer lets them discover the secrets of light while the Terrific Science Explorer will teach them about the human body.

Let your child learn about role-playing and improvisation. They will enjoy the workshop of creating a play based on The Magic Paintbrush which gives a modern twist to the classic Chinese tale. Your kids will learn from its themes of kindness and sharing.

The Singapore Science Center is organising a couples of September holiday workshops which are opened to the Public and SCS Members. There are course for different levels on “MY FIRST ROBOT WORKSHOP”, “I-ROBO CREATIVE ROBOTICS WORKSHOP (ES1) “, “*I-ROBO INTRODUTION TO ROBOTICS WORKSHOP (ES2)” and ROBOTICS WORKSHOP INTERMEDIATE LEVEL (ES2-STAGE 2)”.

Robotics is a fun-filled and hands-on activity that improves creative and analytical thinking skills which are important in Mathematics and Science. Learn about the fundamentals of robotics, using I-Robo robotics kits (ES1/2) or Huna Robo Robotics kit (My First Robot).

All children, this is a great chance for you to come to meet up close with your favourite cartoon characters from Disney. You could take pictures with them too!

You could also stand a chance to win 4 tickets to the “Disney Live! Mickey’s Musical Festival”. To win, just spend a minimum of $100 between 3 Sept to 4 Sept, answer a simple question on the entry form and submit before 8pm each day in an entry box near the stage.

This is one of the important lifeskill that your child could pick up during this holiday. The course will instill the concepts of financial management in your child now and watch him prosper! Through this workshop, your child will learn the all important lessons of budgeting, saving, giving and spending, and as well as grasp the basics of money management and financial integrity. You could combine this course with Stress Management to learn 2 skills at one go!

Another important skillskills which is essential and good to learn while young is how to manage stress. We are faced with stress everyday. And so are our children. However, the stress faced by them is different from that faced by adults. How they manage change, school or exams are all factors that may cause stress. This workshop aims to teach them how to cope with and tackle stress in the different areas of their life through various well-tested methods. You could combine this course with Money Management to learn 2 skills at one go!

Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the Monday, 12 September 2011 but there are hosts of related activities that you could engage with your kids during the holidays. On Saturday, 10 September 2011 at 7.30, there is a Mass Lantern Walk at Chinatown. There are many lantern walk and mid-autumn actitviites organised in the heartland which you could conveniently bring your kids to as well. On top of that, there are many interesting cultural activities at Chinatown, Riverside and Chinese Garden. Watching a movie together with your kids could be a more relaxing way than bringing them to outdoor activities, at least you could sit and enjoy the movie in a comfortable air-conditioned cinema. Of course, your kids will enjoy it too. Here are a few movies that are family-friendly and suitable for almost all ages.
