Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin has sat out of his entire practice thus far with what has only been called “an unspecified illness.”
The news about the receiver’s illness broke in April, when Philadelphia Sports Daily reported that Maclin had been suffering from “mono-like” symptoms throughout February and March and lost approximately 15 pounds.
The Eagles recently signed receiver Steve Smith, formerly of the New York Giants. Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson has been quoted as saying the signing was “Maclin insurance,” should Maclin’s illness cause him to miss regular season playing time.
Philadelphia Inquirer Eagles beat writer Jeff McLane reported on Twitter that as of a half hour ago, Philadelphia Eagles GM Howie Roseman said that there is, “Nothing at the moment,” regarding updates about the illness of wide receiver Jeremy Maclin.
As of 10:00am Eastern today, there was no official word from the Philadelphia Eagles regarding wide receiver Jeremy Maclin’s mystery illness, according to Philadelphia Inquirer Eagles beat reporter Jonathan Tamari.
Eagles head coach Andy Reid said at his morning press conference that the team is still awaiting Maclin’s test results; the receiver remains in his hometown of St. Louis, where the most recent round of testing was conducted.
USA Today and The Sporting News are both reporting that Jeremy Maclin’s brother, Andre Maclin, has stated that the Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver is “fine,” though he is unable to elaborate further, noting a gag order.
Andre also said that an official statement would be released later today (Tuesday), which would clear up the speculation that has been swirling about the severity and length of his brother’s as-yet-undisclosed illness.
