Jeremy Maclin Week 14

Posted by AMStar on Tuesday, 16 August, 2011, 1:41 PM

Despite Jeremy Maclin's brother saying there would "definitely' be news about the WR coming today, so far the news has not come. Andy Reid was asked this morning if he had any news and whether he's heard what Maclin's brother said?

"We totally anticipate Jeremy being part of our football team," Roseman said an interview on 97.5 The Fanatic. "We anticipate him being back here shortly, with us when we get back to Nova Care."

Roseman later said that they would hopefully "have an update shortly." So, still no news, but we are getting more and more indications that whatever this is, it's not a big deal and everyone involved seems pretty confident that Maclin will be playing this year.

by mizzutgr on Aug 16, 2011 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions I'm as sick of this Maclin non-news as I was of the lockout. Day X: “We’re making progress, it’s almost done…”

Day X+1: “Jeremy still can’t practice, he’s still underweight, he’s awaiting the results of more and more tests and we still have no diagnosis.”

by KByars on Aug 16, 2011 10:22 PM EDT up reply actions I don’t care what anyone says about rumor spreading or what…this is typical Eagles bullshit. If it’s no big deal, quit parlaying this into constant speaking points.

by DLawrence55 on Aug 16, 2011 5:15 PM EDT reply actions Maclin is being genetically re-engineered So he grows a third arm to straight-arm Troy Polamalu as he catches the game winning TD in the Superbowl.

by chillyphilly on Aug 17, 2011 12:58 AM EDT up reply actions I have been thinking that they knew what was wrong with him, but were working on a treatment plan that required some testing to see if it was going to be effective enough for him to start playing football again.

And I am going to be a hypocrite and offer up a completely unsubstantiated guess that it is 1 of 2 things: his thyroid was out of whack or it is something to do with his digestive system, i.e. Crohn’s disease or a chronic case of diarrhea.

I don’t really care what the hell’s the matter with him…whether it’s career threatening or he’s just shitting his bed. I just want the FO to stop with all these vague reassurances and either say something like “No comment”, “Talk to Jeremy”, or “we’ll let you know when we know”. All of this “we expect him back” bullshit is going to make them look like fucking morons if he doesn’t come back. And it’s annoying to listen to when all people want is a straight answer.

“At this time, The Mac has an illness that is preventing him from participating in TC. We will not be disclosing the nature of the illness out of respect to The Mac. When we have more information that we can share regarding the illness itself and/or when we expect him back, we will share that with you. In the meantime, we respectfully ask for you refrain from inquiring about The Mac’s illness or expected return. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.”

All of the vagueness hasn’t helped, but I guess that while it is highly improbable, it is possible that they simply didn’t know (enough) about the illness and/or expected return and wanted to avoid creating hysteria over the possibility of him not playing this year. Maybe?

I don't know what you do for a living, but PE.com should hire you That would have been perfect….and would have resolved tons of fan anxiety. So he doesn’t play this year? Fine. It would suck (A LOT), but it’s not like this town doesn’t know what it’s like to go into a season without a starter or high draft pick due to injury. This non-speak is creating more hysteria than any it happens to tamp down.

Now, due to the FO’s diligent efforts, everyone knows he’s sick, and in the absence of knowledge, everyone is assuming the absolute worst, and these constant vague reassurances are probably causing a lot of people to doubt whether he’ll be playing at all (or even that Eagles truly expect him to)

Where is Spuds? Thanks DL, I am going to hope that they didn’t intend to drag this out the way they have and thought it was the best way to address his absence. What is that they say about the best of intentions? Anyway, now that this is reportedly close to being over, I will be happy when we are talking about how good The Mac looks in game action.

Spadaro, holla at me if you want to add a little Reddginald to the PE.com mix. Aside from my uber intelligent and non-Homerist sports views, awesome grammatical stylings and the obsessive nature of my Eagles fandom, I play a killer second base in men’s softball. And I like to drink beer. And I am clever and have a rapist’s wit.

by The Reddgie on Aug 16, 2011 8:09 PM EDT up reply actions I think what bugs me more than anything else about this is the way this is being handled. I seriously believe someone within the organization knows whats wrong with Maclin, but in true Eagles fashion, they are skirting the question of whats wrong with him.

I know some people will say that it’s none of our business what’s wrong with Maclin but I’m tired of feeling like a mushroom. Kept in the dark and fed shit.

Naturally the Eagles couldn’t release this information, as he was meeting with Randy Moss, Jon Gruden, and Brett Favre to discuss their respective futures in the Eagles’ franchise.

by joetimek on Aug 16, 2011 6:43 PM EDT reply actions Maclyn has been cloned. Three times actually. The clones aren’t quite ‘right’ just yet, but when they are finally up and fully running the Eagles will start them as 1, 2, 3 position WR’s and then trade DeSean and Smith each for 1st round picks next year. At that point there will be no draft. The Eagles will simply pick out the first 20 players that they want on the first day and then the rest of the teams can wrestle for the rest.

by 92-74-99-96 on Aug 16, 2011 7:54 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions He had to play for the Bills and the Bengals already, I think he’s humbled enough by now.

by 92-74-99-96 on Aug 16, 2011 7:53 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions TO signed a multiple year extension when we traded for him, then DEMANDED his deal be re-worked the very next off-season. He purposely split the locker room when he didn’t get his way by throwing the QB under the bus.

When it comes to a guy like TO, the con’s far outwiegh the pro’s. If our WR depth wasn’t an absolute strength, then maybe he would be worth taking a chance on.

by The Reddgie on Aug 16, 2011 8:27 PM EDT up reply actions “Our youth showed” kinda pales in comparison to Owens singling out the franchise QB who openly lobbied to bring him to Philly. T.O. got his ass chapped when McNabb pointed out that the Eagles made it to the SB without having T.O. for the playoffs, and that he thought they could win the game without him. I guess he wanted to hear that the team would just pack it in if he couldn’t play. Add that to the lunacy of the contract he signed one year earlier was no longer acceptable, and I just find it dazzling that he has defenders in Philly. I certainly respect your opinion, but I disagree vehemently… T.O. burns bridges wherever he goes. It’s in his nature.

I’m personally amazed by the McNabb defenders. We would not have made it to the Super Bowl that year without TO, you forget that half of the team was on TO’s side… it’s just that TO isn’t politically correct and McNabb is, that’s why TO ended up looking like the bad guy in that situation.

by Udalango on Aug 16, 2011 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions The contract issue certainly is all his doing. I’m not defending McNabb so much as I’m blasting T.O. And they did win the NFC Title game to go to the SB without him.

by Eagladelphia on Aug 16, 2011 9:28 PM EDT up reply actions McNabb wasn't half the problem. How do you figure that? TO cried because he didn’t like the contract he signed just a year earlier. Yea he came back on one leg for the SB. That was great and all, but he alone fucked up any chance at that iteration of the Eagles making it back.

by NOLACuse on Aug 16, 2011 8:23 PM EDT up reply actions And I hated how much of a little bitch he was and how he (and his agent) ruined a good thing. Good riddance. I’m just fine hangin’ with Mr. Cooper if Mac can’t get back in time.

Okay, Cooper doesn’t scare anyone… but you’re right, as of now, we are looking at Cooper starting alongside Jackson in Week 1… they’re gonna basically try to triple cover DeSean cuz there will be no other threats.

They aren’t on The Mac’s level of nastiness, but they will catch the ball when open. Plus, if team’s sleep on Sunshine, they will be in store for a rude awakening. That was a pretty nice catch he had over ED REED, all Pro Safety.

by Eagladelphia on Aug 16, 2011 9:00 PM EDT up reply actions Know how it ended? With T.O. leaving $42 million on the table because that apparently wasn’t enough for him.

DeSean? No chance in hell. The Mac? See DeSean’s answer. Avant? Avant is team leader while TO is a team destroyer, plus TO doesn’t do the little things that Avant does, so no. Cooper? Too much upside with Sunshine, plus TO doesn’t play STs and Sunshine does. Smith? Smith’s rehab is almost complete and is arguably the best slot receiver in the game.

No I said I doubt we keep 6 (I probably should have stated that my preference would be to go with 5 WRs and keep Lee). The fact is that I don’t make that decision, and we need a RS and JLH fits that need the best.
