According to the meteorologists, 2010 is likely to be a very active hurricane season and anyone who lives in the Gulf, or along the eastern seaboard must be aware of the damage that these storms can cause. It's that time of year again, when we all need to keep an eye on the tropics, to see what is brewing. According to the meteorologists, 2010 is likely to be a very active hurricane season and anyone who lives in the Gulf, or along the eastern seaboard must be aware of the damage that these storms can cause. Hurricane preparedness begins now and continues throughout the seven month tropical season.

Hurricane preparedness is far more than just watching the Weather Channel and requires a lot of action. Whenever a watch or warning is issued for your area, you need to be ready and able to think back to 2004 and other seasons to remember how damaging these storms can be, even if you live quite a long way away from the coast.

Water is one of the biggest dangers that a tropical system can bring. Storm surge can be devastating in the immediate area were ever a storm comes ashore, but rain driven by wind can be one of the biggest threats for your home. While it is difficult to stop any widespread flooding certainly, you can do a lot to stop water from entering your home by being prepared.

Stock up on hurricane socks and place them around your windows and doors, especially in the direction of the prevailing wind when the storm arrives. By doing this, a lot of the water that would otherwise be driven into your home can be stopped. Hurricane socks are purpose made and should be on your hurricane preparedness stock list at all times. Each one of them can absorb a gallon of water at a time.

There are so many factors influencing how a hurricane can affect your particular neighborhood. We all know that we should clear up all loose items from the yard and board up windows as necessary, but you should do your best to make sure that a lot of the damage does not enter your home as an essential part of your hurricane preparedness plans.

A hurricane preparedness list is kept close at hand by homeowners who live along the coast. At the top of the list are hurricane socks, which are great front-line defenders and highly cost-effective in this battle. These items can be made to fit in any area and they are manufactured of polypropylene.

You never know how long a tropical system will affect your town. It might spin around for days on end with amazing amounts of rainwater. Often you will be stuck at home, especially if a curfew has been announced. Just watch those hurricane socks and when they become full, wring them out into the nearest drain and replace so they can get to work again.

You may live in a landlocked state and not be concerned with tropical storms. If hurricane preparedness is furthest from your mind, you should nevertheless have absorbent products in-store, waiting for that next summer storm to get there.
