Welcome to players 21-30 of the Rookie Redraft Rankings with keeper considerations. Fantasy Football Trader’s own resident Ranking/Stat Guru (I call him Lord of the Stats) but I hear he answers to Robb too.

Young could end up as the steal or bust of this draft, not that we couldn’t pretty much say that about every player but he’s just that type of guy. He is a speedster that can stretch a field but his lack of size and strength means he will have a hard time getting off of jams and could be injured easily. His lack of blocking ability won’t help his cause. I personally think he has a tough time transitioning to NFL competition but the upside and situation he’s in is just too hard to ignore.

Cobb is a jack of all trades, he ended his Kentucky career with 689 yards passing, 1313 yards rushing, and 1661 receiving yards while adding 40 total touchdowns. Oh and he can get it done as a return man to boot. He’s got the hands and intelligence and speed to make up for his lack of size at the next level. The Packers brought back James Jones which means Cobb looks like nothing more than the fourth or fifth receiver this season but I still love his future upside.

Lewis is tiny but is stronger than you’d think a man of his size would be. He isn’t as fast as you’d hope but he is elusive and in just two years for the Panthers he ran for over 2800 yards with 30 touchdowns. Lewis is only 20 years old so there is time to sit and learn and still have gas in the tank. Lewis may not ever star at the next level so this is a risky ranking but the upside is hard to ignore.

Lacks the size and speed to be a top notch receiver but he could be the perfect slot receiver that the Chargers have been searching for since drafting BUSTer Davis several years ago. Won’t break many big plays but could become an effective go-to-guy who’s real value ends up in PPR leagues.

Shorts has good size, strength, and while he lacks ideal speed he has good quickness and elusiveness. The Jaguars are far from deep at receiver so there is a chance for Shorts to start from day one. He’s got great hands and is an excellent route runner which helps his cause. He will remind some of fellow Mount Union receiver Pierre Garcon which should excite Jaguars fans and fantasy owners alike.

Riddley is in a CROWDED backfield right now and on most accounts he is the forgotten man but I just have to think that the Patriots have a plan for Riddley who was selected just 17 spots after teammate Shane Vereen. Could see some goal line work this season with the upside for more in the future. A definite wildcard.

Jones has good size but lacks the bulk to be an every down back at this point. He’s a speedster with the ability to take it the distance any time the ball is in his hands and could be a perfect change-of-pace back while he learns the ropes. The Raiders are currently 12 million dollars over the cap so they may not find a way to sign Michael Bush which would give Jones even more value. Has had a history of injuries and there are maturity concerns but speed kills and Jones could be a fantasy serial killer.

Arkansas Razorbacks quarterback Ryan Mallett (15) fires a pass28. Ryan Mallett-QB-New England Patriots-3rd rd (6’7” 253 lb, Arkansas)

Mallett is a monster man with an ego to match which could eventually become his downfall. He’s got all the skills to be at the top of this list but he has some footwork to do and he needs to get his head on straight. There are real worries that he could end up as the next JaMarcus Russell as he may not be willing to work. He’s not as slow as his 5.37 he can at the combine but most people feel he just wasn’t in to it which again is where the issues are with Mallett. Hopefully he sits a couple of years and learns behind Tom Brady before getting a chance to start somewhere in the league. A definite high risk/reward player.

I know it’s a bit of a stretch to have a kicker not only in the top 50 but ranked this high but Henery is not your average kicker. Connected on 68 of 76 field goal opportunities while at Nebraska including 21-21 from 40-49 yards. He’s accurate and has a cannon for a leg and while it doesn’t offer much in the way of fantasy help he is also a very capable punter. The only concern I have is that Henery is pencil thin and could get killed on kickoffs, something he never did by the way at Nebraska.

Rudolph is a huge target for Donovan McNabb this season and Christian Ponder in the future. He isn’t fast but has enough ability to stretch the field at times. Visanthe Shiancoe’s days appear numbered in Minnesota so Rudolph could be big red zone contributor for years to come. I do not expect a ton of receptions or yards but he could rank among the top tight ends in touchdowns in the next few years.
